Logan Museum of Anthropology records

Abstract Beloit College's Logan Museum of Anthropology was founded in 1893 after Frank G. Logan purchased a collection of around 3,000 Native American archaeological and ethnographic objects that was exhibited at the Chicago World's Columbian Exposition by Horatio Nelson Rust. Originally the collection was housed in Pearsons Hall of Science, but moved to Memorial Hall in 1905 and has been there since. The museum underwent a major renovation from 1992-1995. Lorine Niedecker collection

Abstract

Lorine Faith Niedecker was a Wisconsin poet and the only woman associated with the Objectivist poets. She was a member of the Beloit College class of 1926, but she left school during her sophomore year and did not return. This is a collection primarily of writing about Niedecker, and includes her files from the Beloit College Alumni Office and many published biographical and critical accounts. There is a small amount of her poetry and art.

Marion H. Hedges collection

Abstract

Marion Hawthorne Hedges worked as an English professor at Beloit College from 1913-1920, before he published the controversial book Iron City and was subsequently asked to leave. After resigning, he worked as a journalist for a few years before going into the work of improving labor relations. This collection contains a significant number of news articles and publication information, as well as correspondence and physical books.

Miles P. Squier papers

Abstract

Rev. Miles P. Squier was one of Beloit College's first professors, teaching Intellectual and Moral Science from 1850 to 1864, and remaining professor emeritus until his death in 1866. This collection contains some of his original correspondence, photographs, and published copies of his writing and speeches, as well as photocopies and transcripts of letters, articles, obituaries, and other personal documents. There is also some information on his wife, Catherine Seymour Squier.

Abstract

The Royal Order of Senior Bench was a senior women's honor society that valued leadership, scholarship, and service to the college. In 1951, it became the Senior Bench Chapter of the national Mortar Board honor society, and also became a coed organization in 1975. This collection contains financial information, correspondence, reports, member lists, constitutions, meeting minutes, event materials, scrapbooks, and member and adviser handbooks.
